Also, I do think that becoming greener should be like a life style change. Some things are easier to do than others. It's difficult to do without a car in some places, so one has to balance that car usage with some other sort of "green" option perhaps. In your remodelling you could incorporate "green" things like using recycled timber, looking on freecycling sites for the bits you need, installing green insulation and solar panels, composting toilets etc etc etc. Well, the latter might be a tad tricky!
