Treehugging Family is urging everyone to join the buy nothing challenge this November. As we all know, the biggest shopping day of the year falls the Friday after Thanksgiving. Can you resist the urge to join the crowds and take advantage of department store sales? I have a couple cousins who would be loath to miss Fred Meyer’s annual sock sale on Black Friday!

I am going to have a buy-nothing Christmas! Well, almost nothing. I don’t want to give details yet because I’m still working it out, but the main gift for my kids is going to be a train trip to someplace fun and homemade things for everyone else. So buy nothing day will be a snap!
I’m very interested to read more about the hiking with kids. The tough time is when they’re too heavy to carry and the legs are still too short to walk far.
