I’ve decided to take it upon myself to name Joy’s new baby, due June 15th! Wouldn’t it be a good idea if her new child had an “eco” name to go along with her mother’s passion for saving the planet? Jennifer over on Treehugging Family has a son named Cedar. She wrote a post on nature-inspired names here. Now it’s my turn! Here are some of my brilliant suggestions:
Myrtle
Laurel
Iris, Violet, Rose, etc.
Olive
Hippie Nature Names:
Rainbow
Sunshine
Meadow
Moonbeam
Starlight
Bird Nature Names:
Wren
Raven
Skylark
Thanks to this site for the great ideas. I’m really liking Caraway, Galaxy, and Briny as well.
I hope this helps Joy out as she attempts to name her daughter. Hurry up and get your ideas in–just a few weeks to go!

i love Sage–earthy and so pretty:)
I love the name Star. Or Lilly.
Not Briny! How about Petal? Or River?
Great list! How ’bout Linden or Briar? There’s also Avril, as in April and Juno, as in June.
Wren is one of my daughter’s middle names – I wrote all about it here: http://appellationmountain.net/2008/12/01/name-of-the-day-wren/
Keep the suggestions coming! Abby, I forgot month names! I actually love the bird names Raven and Wren . . . not so much Skylark. Briny and Galaxy were not high up on my list, either, but I thought I’d throw them out there just in case Joy decides to use them. Briny! Ha!
Kai means ocean or water in Hawaiin. How about playing off of that Like or kailyn
We recently heard of a little girl name Azelea Junebug but I thought that might be a little over the top. A friend named her daughter Tiger Lily. Baby naming is always fun but for us it took a lot of work to find something we agreed on.
I love the name Iris on your list. I thought of a few names such as: Aspen, Aviva (it means spring in Hebrew), Estrella (means star in Spanish), Levana (means moon in Hebrew), and Eban means stone in Hebrew.
How about Robin, or Luna? I really wanted to name our daughter Clover, but my husband didn’t agree.
I like the flower names. If Joy named her child Rainbow, it would go super cute with Roscoe. BUT, I just don’t see it happening. How about Edelweiss? A nod to the german heritage…
I love Luna, too, Jaime! Moon names also include Chandra, Diana, Artemis and Selene.
And if we’re talking star names, there’s also Estrella.
Jaime, I like Clover, too. If Willow and Meadow are fashionable, why not Clover?
Abbi, my mother recently reported a baby Azalea, too. Think it could be the next Lily?
And Edelweiss! That’s a cool idea.
Cinnamon
If my son had been a girl, Zinnia was a real contender. How about Spanish words like Isla, Playa, Estrella, Flor, Terra, Sol (double meaning with “soul” ), Nieve…
My friend named his daughter Clover. I love it especially because he’s Irish.
