Most of us have something keeping us from reaching our green ideals. Maybe it’s psychological: You just don’t like the idea of worms eating up your food scraps or you just don’t believe vinegar can clean as well as bleach. Or maybe it’s financial: It’s difficult to shell out extra money for organic sheets when the regular ones cost half as much. Over the years I’ve jumped over several of my own green hurdles, but I still can’t bring myself to buy organic when it costs over twice as much as conventional. So I’ll buy the organic apples at $1.29 a pound–but no way will I buy $6.00/pound organic butter when I can get it for $2.00/pound on sale.
So what obstacles lie in the way of your perfect eco-existence? And how do you plan to jump right over them?

I think the biggest obstacles we face are money related. We are big meat eaters and buying organic chicken is just impossible. It literally costs twice as much. Other wise the only hurdle is just caused by myself. If i forget by bags for the grocery store, just small things like that, that i could be better about.
Time! I often find myself running cloth diapers thru the dryer (instead of line-drying) because the last one is literally on my daughter! And sometimes I would love to walk instead of drive/make from scratch/source a second-hand item rather than buying new, but I just can’t wait. (Or won’t wait, when it means sacrificing time with my family.)
Space is a factor, too. We live in an urban(ish) row home and gardening, composting and similar projects need to be scaled accordingly. (But we have a mama bird nesting in our tiny herb garden, so I’m feeling quite green these days.)
Still, we’re consistently getting greener – and figuring out how to work around these challenges.
my obstacles are time, space, and money. i’m gradually working towards being green with using what extra time, space, or money i do have to take one step at a time towards being more green. eventually all the little pieces will add up to something big.
I totally agree with Abby on the time. I’m not sure how to slow down life so I have time to always follow through.
