We loved the burrito idea, here's our little bean done up in his swaddle, a green hat, and some tissue paper I saved from a gift bag:

I am so late on this but just had to share that my son's idea of the perfect costume was the traditional ghost - a sheet with holes cut out for the eyes. In a trial run we found out that it isn't very safe as the sheet didn't stay put on his silky hair. So I cut out the entire face and then attached it to a regular hat. We used face paint to make his face white and his eyes black. He looked adorable and many adults commented on what a cool "retro" costume it was.

For my daughter we dug into the dressup and she wore a long white dress (former snow queen costume) a bridal veil and then we painted her face white and put white stuff in her hair. She was the ghost bride - poor thing, died on her wedding day.

I LOVE all your ideas, but Dick Cheney might be too scary for the kids! The best ideas are spawned right out of your garage or toy box. Happy Halloween!

My favorite last-minute Halloween costume as a child was "gypsy girl." A onesie or leotard is the base of the outfit. Simply ad a belt and stick in it many colorful swatches of fabric for a skirt-like effect. Add gaudy costume jewelry if available. This look could be adapted for a "pirate" costume as well. Instead of the leotard, use a brown shirt. Add a rag to the head for a finishing touch.

I happen to love the idea of "Flashdance Baby." All you need is an oversized baby shirt (to be worn off the shoulder, of course), some tights, and some adult sized socks that can quickly be adapted into leg warmers. The baby headband worn straight across the forehead would be the perfect finishing touch. Bring on the music!
