Our local recycling place doesn’t take most plastics or glass, so for the past year, we’ve been saving up all our glass and the plastics that can’t be recycled and when we move in 2 weeks, we’ll recycle it in our new city where those are acceptable. It feels kind of silly that we’re doing that- and using up some of our precious Uhaul space for recyclables, but I can’t imagine all of that just sitting in a landfill.
When my husband gets lazy and forgets day after day to haul the recycling to our apartment’s bins, I still can’t bring myself to throw away recyclables so I just keep stacking plastic and glass and paper on top of itself in the small box until he decides he’s finally going to take it out.
I save all those little rubber bands and twist ties that come with produce. I can’t throw them away!
We are fortunate to have recycling and compost bins at work. However, even though they are right next to the trash, people don’t read the signs and chuck everything in the trash can. I go through it once or twice a day and pull out any recyclable or compostable items that aren’t too yucky, and move them to the proper bin. I recently found out I’m not the only one here who does that!
My mother recycles all the beer bottles and cans she drinks, but shes not an alcohlic dont worry, and keeps all the bottle tops to collect
my mom saves the little coke tabs and i crush and save the aluminum cans then i take them in to the recycling center to make a little extra cash.
After canning fruits or veggies, I let the huge pot of water cool, then use it to water plants. I guess it’s not all that weird, but my husband always gives me a funny look. Why waste all that water?!
We have the philosophy “if it’s yellow, let it mellow” in our bathrooms. It may mean more frequent toilet cleanings though…
i recycle every single tag of new clothing as well as the plastic strings that attaches to the new garment. if i pop them too hard and fly away then i got nuts until i find it.
