I have never bought a roll of paper towels in my life. This is perhaps my greatest claim to greenness. I only wish I had more opportunities to tout this little detail about my life, along with the fact that I’ve never eaten a Twinkie. But I digress.

So how do I wash windows and mirrors, you ask? With crumpled up newspaper, of course. A single sheet of newspaper can serve as my window-washer for a good six months before retiring to the recycling bin.
Would you like to try this green cleaning technique yourself? It’s easy. Just fill a spray bottle with a mixture of one part water, one part white vinegar. Spray a bit on the mirror or window, then wipe clean with the crumpled up newspaper. Voila! You’re done. And congratulations—you saved a paper towel.

I wipe with vingear & newspaper and then squeege (sp?) the windows… they are spotless and streakless… I feel like such a domestic goddess everytime I finish!
And this doesn’t leave any ink residue on the windows?
Ooh, Erin, the squeegee (sp?!) takes it to another level. I just use the newspaper!
Krissy–no, it doesn’t leave any residue, streaks, lint, or anything. Of course, your hands do get kind of black, but then you can wash them.
I tried this and it did leave dark ink streaks on my glass. I don’t know what I did wrong. I used regular black & white newspaper. *sigh* Maybe I will give it another try.
I just started using Norwex Window Cloths for cleaning windows and it works better than anything else AND you save money by only using water. Just spray some water on the windows, wipe with the window cloth and you’ll see your windows and mirrors cleaner than you’ve ever seen them before!! It’s amazing! Windows are now one of my kids chores at home too because you only have to use water.

So this is the first time I heard of this and what a wonderful use of items in the house! Window washing is going on my checklist this weekend. Thanks for the tip and spared paper towel.
