Marcal Small Steps Paper Product Review

Here at Greenbabyguide.com, we’re all about simple eco-friendly changes.  They have to be things you can do while sleep deprived, nursing, and trying to get at least one load of laundry done per week.  That’s why we love Marcal Small Steps 100% recycled paper products  All you have to do is throw them into your cart instead of traditional toilet paper and you’ve just made a difference!

Marcal is a small company that has been making paper products for more than 60 years.  Their products are easy to find in mainstream stores, affordable, and high quality.  Since we just use rags around here, we haven’t yet given their paper towels a try, but we love Marcal’s Small Steps toilet paper.  While some other recycled paper products can be flimsy or extremely rough, Marcal’s Small Steps toilet paper seems indistinguishable from any mainstream brand.

If a family of four switches to 100% recycled paper products, in just one year they’ll save two trees.  And in 20 years, they’ll save about 34 trees.  (That’s a small forest!)  Imagine if businesses and schools switched to fully recycled paper products.  It seems like such a small change but the benefits are tremendous!

If you chose to “like” Marcal on facebook, you’ll get a $1.00 off coupon for your next purchase of Marcal Small Steps recycled paper products.

Do you buy greener paper products?  If so, what are your favorites?  If not, what’s holding you back?

  1. I admit, I’m addicted to my Charmin Ultra Strong. I think a grocery store near me sells Marcal’s toilet paper in individual rolls, though, so maybe I’ll try one.

I did recently email Charmin and request that they stop over-packaging their toilet paper. If you buy the large packs, it’s packaged in plastic and then has smaller packages with more plastic inside. Pretty ridiculous!

  2. I’ve been displeased with the greener brands of toilet paper I’ve tried in the past. It my experience they have been rough and loosly spun so that each roll is alot short than i’d like. I’m sorry to say we use a soft mainstream brand with long rolls. I would be willing to spend a little more if a recycled brand was of equivalent quality. Maybe we’ll give this one a try.

  3. I have to be honest. This is an area where my frugality is more important to me than the environment. I buy whatever I can get the best deal on. I have tried Marcal tissues, paper towels (they had some coupons for a free roll), and toilet paper but was not impressed with any of the products. We pretty much don’t use paper towels anymore anyway, but when it comes to toilet paper, I just get the best deal I can. Usually I buy a generic at a wholesale club.

  4. Our family uses and likes Marcel toilet paper. I too hated the rough and scratchy feel of recycled toilet paper but Marcel is the best one I have found!
Melody – just to let you know, Marcel paper is not loosly spun at the end, it is glued on tight!

Whatever toilet paper you use, don’t forget to put the empty rolls in the recycling bin!
