I have the secret! My fabulous childcare provider also read this post and rushed out to buy a set of the napkins. She was similarly disappointed when they came out in a wrinkled mess. She then washed them with natural fabric softener and made sure to put it in the detergent, bleach, and fabric softener sections of her washing machine. They came out quite nicely. Not to worry Rebecca! You can still buy some as long as you're willing to pick up some natural fabric softener as well.

We use the cheapo tea towels from IKEA. I think they were .49/each when we bought them but last time I was in an IKEA they were up to .79/each - still a great deal considering we use them instead of paper towels, hand towels, napkins, etc. When they get too gross, they get turned into cleaning rags, then put aside for those rare jobs that require something disposable. I need more in fact, but we are nowhere near an IKEA anymore so I'm holding out for when we visit friends who are :) I also use flour sacks I bought at Sam's for $9.99 for 12. They are huge and can be easily cut down into smaller towels if needed, but they are wonderfully absorbent and work great for drying dishes. I do have some nicer cloth napkins but we only use them for special occasions and I don't mind ironing them so rarely. They don't get too wrinkly though - they are from Crate and Barrel if you want to give their's a go!
