We’ve been using cloth diapers since Franci was born and have tried a variety of types and brands. Our motley collection includes everything from homemade insert diapers to Chinese pre-folds to designer prints. We certainly have our favorites, but as eco-consious diaperers, we’re not going to get rid of any unless they are leak prone. If we were new to cloth diapering and ready to invest, Glow Bug Cloth Diapers would be on the top of our list.
The most important feature of cloth diapers, for us, is that they don’t leak. I don’t care how cute they are! We’ve been using our Glow Bug Diaper for months, and have never once had a leak or blowout (which is more than I can say for Charlie Banana, which we had to stop using it was so bad).
Glow Bug Cloth Diapers are adjustable, with lots of snaps, so they grow with your baby (from 7-35lbs). My one suggestion is that they add a male snap to the end of lower strip of snaps on the back flaps that would make the leg gap fit more securely. We’ve never had any leaks, as I said, but after a lot of crawling around there is always extra material sticking out of the leg holes, even after adjusting the rise.
We often reuse cloth diaper shells and just replace the insert (or prefold), so we’ve mostly used the 360 Gusset feature on the Glow Bug instead of placing the insert beneath . The elastic holds the insert in place, even for active babies. Since we are about 7 months into infant potty training, we aren’t using as many diapers and don’t need to reuse the shells. I just starting using the Glow Bug feature when the insert goes under the liner and snaps in place. So far I think it’s a great idea!
Speaking of investing in cloth diapers, Glow Bug doesn’t sell individual diapers. You have to buy them in packages of 12 shells with 18 inserts or try your luck on their Facebook Group to buy individuals. The packages are shipped for free and include a wet bag. You can email them at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to see if there is a local retailer you can buy individual prints from.
If you’re a cloth diaper junkie, and love cute prints, Glow Bug won’t disappoint! Even though you don’t get to choose individual prints, each one included in the different packages are are great. I don’t think there are any prints I don’t like, and they aren’t too babyish or boring. To be honest, I think they have my favorite collection of prints!
If you are hoping for cotton-only diapers, Glow Bug isn’t for you. Although the diapers are ethically made in China, the shells are 100% polyester laminated with polyurethane on the outside. The SlimDry material is 100% polyester on the inside. The microfiber inserts are 70% polyester and 30% nylon and the bamboo inserts are made of 2 layers of bamboo viscose, cotton and polyester blend and 1 layer of microfiber. We haven’t had any issues with diaper rash with these diapers, but then we aren’t using them exclusively and can’t know for sure how they compare.
