The first thing I did when I got my hands on Jen Mann’s book of holiday essays, Spending the Holidays with People I Want to Punch in the Throat: Yuletide Yahoos, Ho-Ho-Humblebraggers, and Other Seasonal Scourges, was look at the chapter titles. Right away I could tell I was going to thoroughly enjoy it, I mean, how could anyone not like a book filled with chapters like “Why You Wont’ Be Invited To Our Chinese New Year Party This Year, Or Ever” and “Like A Neon Virgin In Guess Jeans And Swatch Watches”? Well, maybe you…you probably don’t have the refined sense of humor that I possess. Even if you aren’t as funny as I am, you still might get something out of this clever book.
Besides writing “Spending The Holidays With People I Want To Punch In The Throat”, Jen Mann is also the author of the more…titled “People I Want To Punch In The Throat”. The essays in both books come from her popular blog titled…wait for it…”People I Want To Punch In The Throat”. Even though I’ve used the phrase “People I Want To Punch In The Throat” four times in one paragraph, it still doesn’t get old. I love the title, and I loved the book!
Jenn Shares funny anecdotes of her Christmas-loving mother, who is a little (a lot) over zealous with the decorations, her own love/hate relationship with the holidays, her irritation with the Elf On The Shelf, and other hilarious family shenanigans. Grab this book for yourself or your favorite (or not so favorite) family member, and let us know what you think!
