Product Review: Peppy Pals App and Free Download

Reggy’s Play Date

In May I was given the chance to try out a new app for kids by the Peppy Pals company. The ‘Reggy’s Playdate’ app was described to me as an opportunity for kids aged 2-8 to “learn about emotions”. Since both of my lovely daughters fall into this age range, and could probably benefit from a little education in this department, I went ahead and downloaded the app and let them try it on my iPhone.

Reggy’s Playdate has turned out to be one the best apps we’ve tried! Besides the fact that I’m now letting them play with my phone, my kids love tending to Reggy and making sure he’s happy, fed, well-rested, and not bored. Reggy lets you know what he needs by using his facial expressions and his doggie vocalization powers.

Summer Must Haves for the Family and Giveaways!

Sunforgettable Brush

sunforgettable-brushIf you’re going to spend the day at the beach or a whole day in the sun, it makes sense to lather up the family with sun screen.  If you’re just going for a walk or hitting the park for half an hour, it’s tempting to just skip the sunscreen and save the time and effort.  Especially if you use “natural” sunscreens that are greasy or are a pain to rub in.

That’s why we love the Sunforgettable Brush!  We keep it in our purse all summer for quick applications or when we forget to put on sunscreen before heading out. It’s a brush-on powder sunscreen made with minerals and free of dyes, chemicals, colorants, and perfumes.  This means it can be used on adults, kids, and even family members with rosacea or eczema

Little Balance Box Update and Giveaway!

Little Balance Box

Little Balance Box

We first heard about the Little Balance Box a year ago when they started their Kickstarter campaign.  After trying both push walkers and seated walkers with our girls, with frustrating results, we were excited to learn that there was a different option on the market. Finally, there’s a single product that lets babies practice all the skills that lead to walking! The Little Balance Box is the one item we suggest to all the new parents we meet.

The inventor of the Little Balance Box, Dr. Shannon Davis PT, DPT, is a mother of two with Doctorate and Masters degrees in Physical Therapy and over a decade of working with developmentally disabled children.  The design of the Little Balance Box was born out of her unique experience as a mother and a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and the success of her Kickstarter campaign made it a reality.

Preparing For Cold and Flu Season

We started this post last November, but then we spent most of winter fighting off the colds and flues we should have been preparing for!  The winter storm we got last week reminded us that the season isn’t over yet!  If anything, it can be even harder on the immune system to go from snow pants to shorts in the span of a few days.

Here’s what we’ve been keeping on hand to help us through cold and flu season!

Chyawanprash

chyawanprashThe best way to make it through cold and flu season is to not get sick in the first place!  That’s why we love products like this Chyawanprash from Organic India that provide a daily immunity boost.

Lunchtime Must Haves and Giveaways!

Press Pouch

press-pouchOne lunchtime item that we can’t live without is the Press Pouch Reusable Squeeze Pouch. It works just like the ones you buy at the store, but has a zipper and bottom for filling it with your own smoothies or purees. I usually fill ours with Greek yogurt mixed with green powder for a nutritional snack.  I love that these allow my 15mo and 3yo to eat yogurt without making a mess, but also that it frees me up from sitting there with a spoon coaxing them to eat and not play.

I’ve also filled these with my Peanut Butter Banana Milkshakes and different savory purees.  After they’re empty, it’s a cinch to rinse them out and run through the dishwasher.  The Press Pouch is BPA Free, Phthalate Free, PVC Free and also freezer safe.  Just be sure to put a label on it saying “DO NOT THROW AWAY” along with your kid’s name if you send to to daycare with them.

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas For Kids

Chuao Chocolate

chuao-chocolateWe usually stick to non-edible gifts at our house, but it’s hardly Valentine’s Day without chocolate!  Lucky for us there’s a lot of great chocolate available these days, since we’re going for quality over quality. One of our new favorites is Chuao Chocolate.  They have a great variety and fun flavors that appeal to grownups and kids alike.

Our current favorite is Chuao’s Oh My S’mores.  It combines two of our favorite treats, chocolate bars and s’mores; no campfire required!  Waffle Wild Strawberry is another great choice for kids, or how about Potato Chip?  Or Firecracker? As if chocolate needed help being more fun!

Holiday Gifts for Kids and Giveaway!

Strider Bike

strider-bikeWhat’s more classic than finding a bicycle under the tree Christmas morning?  If your kid is old enough to walk but not ready for a bike with pedals, there’s no better introduction to bicycling than a Strider Balance Bike.

Since both feet are on the ground, the rider gets to move at the pace that makes them feel comfortable, whether that be at walking pace or faster.  The best part of the balance bike is that the rider masters the fundamentals of balancing, leaning, and steering without the distractions and complications of pedals or training wheels.bell-helmet

If you’re going to give a bike, don’t forget to include a helmet!  We like the Bell Toddler Helmet because you can adjust it for the perfect fit and it has extended rear coverage for extra protection.

Evenflo Bottles and Sippy Cups Reviews and Giveaways!

Evenflo has been coming out with a lot of new drinking products for kids, and we’ve liked the ones we’ve tried. We’ve used glass bottles exclusively, and can’t help but like the tinted glass ones (they’re so pretty!).  The Triple-Flo cups are easier to keep clean than other sippy cups we have, and we like the adjustable flow valves.

Glass Bottles

evenflo-tinted-glass-bottlesLike their other glass bottles, the Evenflo Tinted Glass Baby Bottles come with Proflow Integrated Venting Nipples. Basically, they are silicone nipples that rapidly vents so air bubbles are sent into the bottle, not the baby stomach.  We all know how fussy a baby (and parent) gets when she has gas bubbles in her system.  We like that the bubble vent is built into the nipple, so there aren’t extra parts like with our other glass bottles.  This means less to clean and keep track of.  And we love the two colors: Teal and Lavender.  They’re available in 3 packs in both 4 and 8 ounce sizes, but are new enough that it’s hard to track them down (that is, you can’t buy them on Amazon yet)

Products for Bath Time Fun With Six Giveaways!

We’re mostly a shower family ourselves, but every once and awhile we treat our kids to an evening bath. Since it doesn’t happen often, we pull out all the fun stuff and turn it into an activity. Here are some of the toys and accessories they are enjoying right now!

Tubby Table

tubby-table-newThe new Tubby Table is kept in place with an improved large suction cup at its base.  The table height can be adjusted, and it comes with a set of colorful cups in different shapes.  There are cutouts in the top of the table that the shapes can be inserted into, but my kids mostly like to pour water in the holes.  They also enjoy pretend play at the table, and sometimes ask to play with it outside the bath.
