Picnic Essentials and Giveaways!

Whether it’s at the park, beach, river or forest, we love summer picnics!  Our kids jump at any chance to get away from home, even if it’s just for an hour or two.  The break in routine alleviates summer boredom and they get to run wild without wrecking the house, which makes mom (and therefore kids) happy.

The best part about picnics is that you don’t have to go very far to enjoy fresh air and a bit of nature.  Oh, and all that running around wears the kids out while we get to relax in the shade on a blanket!  With the right essentials, a picnic can be a quick and low-stress activity for the whole family to enjoy.

Summer Must Haves for the Family and Giveaways!

Sunforgettable Brush

sunforgettable-brushIf you’re going to spend the day at the beach or a whole day in the sun, it makes sense to lather up the family with sun screen.  If you’re just going for a walk or hitting the park for half an hour, it’s tempting to just skip the sunscreen and save the time and effort.  Especially if you use “natural” sunscreens that are greasy or are a pain to rub in.

That’s why we love the Sunforgettable Brush!  We keep it in our purse all summer for quick applications or when we forget to put on sunscreen before heading out. It’s a brush-on powder sunscreen made with minerals and free of dyes, chemicals, colorants, and perfumes.  This means it can be used on adults, kids, and even family members with rosacea or eczema

Lunchtime Must Haves and Giveaways!

Press Pouch

press-pouchOne lunchtime item that we can’t live without is the Press Pouch Reusable Squeeze Pouch. It works just like the ones you buy at the store, but has a zipper and bottom for filling it with your own smoothies or purees. I usually fill ours with Greek yogurt mixed with green powder for a nutritional snack.  I love that these allow my 15mo and 3yo to eat yogurt without making a mess, but also that it frees me up from sitting there with a spoon coaxing them to eat and not play.

I’ve also filled these with my Peanut Butter Banana Milkshakes and different savory purees.  After they’re empty, it’s a cinch to rinse them out and run through the dishwasher.  The Press Pouch is BPA Free, Phthalate Free, PVC Free and also freezer safe.  Just be sure to put a label on it saying “DO NOT THROW AWAY” along with your kid’s name if you send to to daycare with them.

And The Boken Diaper Bag Winners Are…

boken-bag-2Congratulations to Alicia and Kelly!  They have won a Boken Every Day Bag in their choice of color.  Thank you to everyone who entered for your participation and support!

boken-bagIf you didn’t win, you can still purchase this versatile, compact diaper for yourself.  We think this bag is perfect for busy parents, since it can be worn as a messenger bag, backpack or carried as a tote and is compact and machine washable.  The design and variety of colors are such that even Dad can carry it without feeling like he’s lugging around a “diaper bag”.

Check out our full review here.

Boken Bag Review and Giveaway

boken-bagIf traditional diaper bags are not your style, a convertible Boken Every Day Bag might be just the ticket.  It’s made from machine-washable, water-resistant material that easily wipes clean and can be worn as a cross-body messenger, tote or backpack.  For great pictures of the bag in-use, visit the Boken website.

The multipurpose bag features detachable messenger and backpack straps, a big mesh pocket and zip pocket on the inside, a baby bottle pocket and mesh water bottle pocket on the outside.  It has easy access pockets on the front and comes with an extra large diaper pad.

boken-bag-2As if it weren’t versatile enough, the Boken Every Day Bag folds into a small zip pouch perfect for storage and ideal for traveling since, when worn as a backpack, it distributes weight evenly to reduce back strain. That said, don’t confuse this for a travel backpack.  The straps are not padded and the bag isn’t structured enough to make it replacement for a traditional day pack.  Of course, it is much more compact and lighter than a day pack.

Product Review: bloom BABY Sensitive Wipes and Giveaway!

bloom-baby-wipesWe’re always on the lookout for non-irritating wipes for our baby’s sensitive skin.  At home, we use our own cloth wipes and homemade diaper spray, but on-the-go we use packaged wipes.  If we’re out of town for a week, the exposure to the so-called “sensitive” wipes usually results in an angry bottom.

bloom BABY Wipes is one if the new ones we’ve tried, and after a week of use we’re irritation free!  I’m always skeptical about claims of being “sensitive” or “gentle”, since it’s not always the case.  But bloom Baby has taken a lot of care to achieve a “Skin Safe Rating”, and includes the risk level and benefit of each ingredient on the outside of the packaging. The Skin Safe Rating is based on the Handbook of Green Chemicals and Whole Foods Premium Body Care Standards, which rates each ingredient based on evolving scientific and regulatory data to ensure their safety.

Holiday Gifts for Kids and Giveaway!

Strider Bike

strider-bikeWhat’s more classic than finding a bicycle under the tree Christmas morning?  If your kid is old enough to walk but not ready for a bike with pedals, there’s no better introduction to bicycling than a Strider Balance Bike.

Since both feet are on the ground, the rider gets to move at the pace that makes them feel comfortable, whether that be at walking pace or faster.  The best part of the balance bike is that the rider masters the fundamentals of balancing, leaning, and steering without the distractions and complications of pedals or training wheels.bell-helmet

If you’re going to give a bike, don’t forget to include a helmet!  We like the Bell Toddler Helmet because you can adjust it for the perfect fit and it has extended rear coverage for extra protection.
