Evenflo Bottles and Sippy Cups Reviews and Giveaways!

Evenflo has been coming out with a lot of new drinking products for kids, and we’ve liked the ones we’ve tried. We’ve used glass bottles exclusively, and can’t help but like the tinted glass ones (they’re so pretty!).  The Triple-Flo cups are easier to keep clean than other sippy cups we have, and we like the adjustable flow valves.

Glass Bottles

evenflo-tinted-glass-bottlesLike their other glass bottles, the Evenflo Tinted Glass Baby Bottles come with Proflow Integrated Venting Nipples. Basically, they are silicone nipples that rapidly vents so air bubbles are sent into the bottle, not the baby stomach.  We all know how fussy a baby (and parent) gets when she has gas bubbles in her system.  We like that the bubble vent is built into the nipple, so there aren’t extra parts like with our other glass bottles.  This means less to clean and keep track of.  And we love the two colors: Teal and Lavender.  They’re available in 3 packs in both 4 and 8 ounce sizes, but are new enough that it’s hard to track them down (that is, you can’t buy them on Amazon yet)

Products for Bath Time Fun With Six Giveaways!

We’re mostly a shower family ourselves, but every once and awhile we treat our kids to an evening bath. Since it doesn’t happen often, we pull out all the fun stuff and turn it into an activity. Here are some of the toys and accessories they are enjoying right now!

Tubby Table

tubby-table-newThe new Tubby Table is kept in place with an improved large suction cup at its base.  The table height can be adjusted, and it comes with a set of colorful cups in different shapes.  There are cutouts in the top of the table that the shapes can be inserted into, but my kids mostly like to pour water in the holes.  They also enjoy pretend play at the table, and sometimes ask to play with it outside the bath.

Product Review Little Balance Box

allison-balance-box We’ve been keeping our eye on the Little Balance Box since its Kickstarter campaign earlier this year, and we’re excited that the first production run has turned out such a great product!

The inspiration for the Little Balance Box was a frustration with seated walkers, which inhibits mobility and doesn’t let a baby practice standing up and sitting down, and a push walker, which can be hard to maneuver and tip over easily.

Little Balance Box is made from sustainable bamboo with nylon feet and a clear polycarbonate top.  It’s BPA and PVC Free, and wipes down easily.  Just keep in mind that you might want to lightly oil the natural bamboo on occasion to keep it looking nice, and any spilled water or drools show up clearly.

And The Glow Bug Diaper Winner Is…

glow-bug-diaperCongratulations to Heather!  You’ve won a cloth diaper from Glow Bug.  Thank you to everyone who participated in the giveaway, we appreciate your support!  If you missed out and want to read all the details about these great cloth diapers, check out our review.

Glow Bug Diapers are not sold individually, so if you’re just starting out your cloth diaper collection we definitely recommend their packages.  Since they are adjustable, the diapers grow with your child and you’ll be able to use them from infancy through potty training.

If commitment isn’t your strong suit, or you like to have a variety, you can try and score individual Glow Bug Diapers via their Glow Bug and Friends Facebook group.  You can also find a local retailer by emailing them directly.

Product Review: Aketta Cricket Powder

Cricket Powder

It’s that time of year again! World Edible Insect Day was October 23rd! What? You forgot to celebrate this exciting event, you say? You’ve never even heard of it, you say? Eating insects is disgusting, you say?

It may be time to reevaluate our relationship to insects and entamophagy (the eating of bugs). The fact is, most of the world actually eats insects on a regular basis, and because they are cheap, easy to grow, and use infinitely less resources than any other form of protein, bugs may be the wave of the future for us all.

Thanks to Aspire Food Group, located in Austin, TX, I was able to try my hand at using their finely milled cricket powder in my everyday cooking. The product is pure cricket, ground to a powder comprised of 68% protein. I was pleased to find out that these insects enjoy a better diet than most humans. Aspire’s crickets feed exclusively on local, organic fare, and drink only reverse-osmosis filtered water. Reverse osmosis, people. Let that sink in for a moment.

Cloth Diaper Review and Giveaway: Glow Bug

flowerworks-glow-bug-diaper We’ve been using cloth diapers since Franci was born and have tried a variety of types and brands.  Our motley collection includes everything from homemade insert diapers to Chinese pre-folds to designer prints.  We certainly have our favorites, but as eco-consious diaperers, we’re not going to get rid of any unless they are leak prone.  If we were new to cloth diapering and ready to invest, Glow Bug Cloth Diapers would be on the top of our list.

The most important feature of cloth diapers, for us, is that they don’t leak.  I don’t care how cute they are!  We’ve been using our Glow Bug Diaper for months, and have never once had a leak or blowout (which is more than I can say for Charlie Banana, which we had to stop using it was so bad).

Halloween Candy Exchange Ideas

candy

No thanks!

Our girls are a little young to be trick-or-treating, but that hasn’t stopped me from thinking about what we’ll do with all that candy once we do! Last year we wrote about our decision to stop giving out sweets and giving out alternitives to candy. We’ve actually been blogging about non-edible Halloween treats for years, which leads me to believe we’re not the only parents figuring out what to do with all that candy.

I was about to write up my own list of organizations that accept Halloween candy and other uses for the candy, but it looks like Kid’s Health has already done it for me.  One of the most well known and best organized programs is Operation Gratitude that encourages you to send your kids’ candy to our Troops. Find out how on their website.

Super Undies Giveaway!

Reusable Nighttime Pullups

We’re excited to be hosting a giveaway from Super Undies! One lucky reader will receive their choice of Super Undie by entering the Rafflecopter Giveaway below.  Here are the different reusable training pants they offer:

  • We give their Nighttime Trainers two thumbs up (check out our full review from last week).  They are durable, extra absorbent and come in sizes for up to 10 year-olds.  You can add in extra layers for heavy wetters, and choose between cotton or microfiber, both in a variety of colors.
  • We have also been using their Hybrid Undies, and haven’t had a leak yet.  The idea is that they can pull off and on, but also have snaps in case of a big mess and have extra snaps so they will grow with her just a bit. They are too small for our toddler, but they fit our 11mo just right.
