WaterWipes Review and Giveaway!

WaterWipes

WaterWipesWe’ve tried many different baby wipes over the years, and all of them give my girls diaper rashes after a few days. Even the sensitive versions with lanolin or aloe still contain a list of other chemicals.  That’s why we were so excited to discover WaterWipes!

WaterWipes contain only two ingredients. And that’s it! Just 99.9% purified water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. Nothing else.

Why grapefruit seed extract? Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) is known for its skin conditioning and moisturizing benefits. It is also a natural antimicrobial agent as well as an anti-fungal, and  anti-viral.  And it helps combat yeast infections.

The best part is that WaterWipes works as well as any other baby wipe, but is safe enough to use on hands, noses, faces, or whatever else needs a good wipe down.  We use them all over the house, since GSE is non-toxic, environmentally safe and is becoming the go-to disinfect and sanitizer for hospitals in the US and Europe.  WaterWipes are manufactured in Ireland.

Product Review: bloom BABY Sensitive Wipes and Giveaway!

bloom-baby-wipesWe’re always on the lookout for non-irritating wipes for our baby’s sensitive skin.  At home, we use our own cloth wipes and homemade diaper spray, but on-the-go we use packaged wipes.  If we’re out of town for a week, the exposure to the so-called “sensitive” wipes usually results in an angry bottom.

bloom BABY Wipes is one if the new ones we’ve tried, and after a week of use we’re irritation free!  I’m always skeptical about claims of being “sensitive” or “gentle”, since it’s not always the case.  But bloom Baby has taken a lot of care to achieve a “Skin Safe Rating”, and includes the risk level and benefit of each ingredient on the outside of the packaging. The Skin Safe Rating is based on the Handbook of Green Chemicals and Whole Foods Premium Body Care Standards, which rates each ingredient based on evolving scientific and regulatory data to ensure their safety.

Wipes Warmers: A Moral Quandary

We’ve gone on the record saying that wipes warmers are completely unnecessary and probably even evil. They’re made of plastic and require electricity—they represent everything we abhor! At least, that’s what I used to think. Lately I’ve been reexamining some of my long-held convictions and I’m confronting some painful realities. For example, after years of denial, I’ve come around to accepting that diaper sprayers might be a good thing. (Or—even better—try the DIY diaper sprayer option.)

Today the difficult philosophical question I’m asking is this: Can wipes warmers be green? Here’s a little story to help us decide: Joy admitted she didn’t use cloth wipes  with her first child. Why? Because she thought it would be too much trouble to take the five seconds to wet the wipe with a spray bottle or squirt bottle. I’m happy to report that she changed her tune with her second baby.
