Top 5 Reasons to Buy The Eco-nomical Baby Guide

5. We wrote it. And we don’t like to mention this often, for fear of appearing self-aggrandizing, but we are geniuses. We’ve composed poetic, emotional odes to cloth diapers. We’ve poured our soul into manifestos on buying used gear. We’ve conducted ground-breaking research on the best way to puree a steamed yam.

4. It has the power to change lives. Say your beloved friend has registered for heaps of plastic gizmos and coal-operated baby contraptions at Babys R Us. The Eco-nomical Baby Guide would be a nice, passive-aggressive way to say, “There’s a hole in the ozone layer. Let’s do something about it.”

Our First Book Reviews!

What is the blogosphere saying about the Eco-nomical Baby Guide?

Dorothy of The Backyard Homesteader wrote a glowing review of our book. We quoted her on page 72, so we obviously appreciate what she has to say on the topic of green babies. Dorothy especially liked the chapters on cloth diapers. “I had to figure out a lot of this on my own,” she says. “These chapters alone make the book a must-read.”

Mrs. Not-the-Jet-Set is another one of our blogger friends who graciously agreed to review an advanced copy of the book on Not the Jet Set. She says our book is “packed with great information that was very practical. I love how they demonstrate that being green does not mean buying all new stuff. In fact, buying second hand is better!”

HappyBaby Book Review + Giveaway at the End of the Post

HappyBaby: The Organic Guide to Baby’s First 24 Months is the latest offering from Dr. Robert W. Sears, co-written with Amy Marlow, the dietician for HappyBaby organic baby food. Dr. Sears co-wrote The Baby Book, that classic tome on Attachment Parenting you’ll either embrace or—overcome by a creeping sensation of guilt and inadequacy—throw across the room. HappyBaby is a kinder, gentler introduction to the world of the Drs. Sears. In fact, the mantra in this new book may very well be “Relax! Don’t worry too much. Just take it one small thing at a time.” This attitude makes it easy to digest the information inside without worrying about doing something wrong—either for your baby or the planet.

We’re Proud to Announce . . . Our New Book Title!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Book Title Brainstorm! We needed to take the “green” out of “The Green Baby Guide: Down-to-Earth Ways to Save Money and the Planet” due to “green fatigue.”

Penny suggested It’s Natural Baby: Earth Saving for Thrifty Parents; Earth Safe, Baby Safe; and the Sustainability Guide for Your Baby, Earth and Wallet. Charndra at Part Time Diaper Free suggested Green Baby Guide: The Eco Friendly Way to Start a New Generation. Mrs. Not the Jet Set thought of the Crunchy Mom’s Guide to Parenthood: Saving Money without Compromising as well as Sustainable Living for the First Year and Beyond. Erika of Organic Baby Resource suggested replacing “green” with “eco-friendly,” as it’s not as overused.  Cathrin suggested Frugal Babies: How to Raise Healthy Babies on a Budget and Save the Planet. All of these suggestions sound like great book titles and provided us with a lot of inspiration as we struggled to rename the book and rewrite our first chapter.

The Best Green Baby Books for New Parents

When Joy and I started working on our book two and a half years ago, we thought we had the most original idea ever. We searched Amazon.com and couldn’t find any green baby books on the market. We rushed the idea off to publishers, sure we’d have a bidding war on our hands. Imagine our shock when no one seemed to jump at the chance to publish our unwritten masterpiece.

Okay, so we were a little naïve. Eventually we did get a publishing contract, and we’re proud to announce that our creation will hit bookstore shelves next spring.  And we’ll have company! Since we’ve started the project, other eco-minded writers have published some green baby books of their own:
